Description: On October 14, 2023 few students and teachers of the Friends of Mary Ward group visited Divya Jyoti school for the Blind, a special school for the visually impaired children run by the Sisters of Charity. The visit was organized as a part of Friends of Mary Ward's mission to follow the footsteps of our esteemed Foundress Mary Ward by serving the marginalized and underprivileged sections of the society. Our honourable Principal, Rev. Sister Lissy CJ accompanied the group and appreciated the sisters for their noble work and hospitality. The FMW group was warmly welcomed by the students of Divya Jyoti with a melodious song, who were amazed by the talent and enthusiasm of the children. A student from class 8 demonstrated the method of reading and writing in Braille, a system of raised dots that represents letters and numbers for the blind. The students and teachers of FMW were impressed by her skill and confidence. The students of FMW expressed their views by giving a short speech. They also sang a hymn followed by a prayer for the well-being of those specially abled children. The highlight of the visit was the interactive session between the students where they exchanged their experiences and stories. An expression of care and concern was showcased by the FMW as they donated bedsheets to the children. The visit was a memorable and enriching one for both the groups which created a bond of empathy, respect and solidarity. The experience was overwhelming and the students expressed gratitude to Sr. Lissy CJ, for giving them an opportunity to see the world through the eyes of the less fortunate.
